Plane Crash, How Often Can It Be?

Going for a vacation and into a long trip? How would you like to reach your destination? Throughout the ages the demands for transportation have significantly increased. In the aspect of budget consideration and the time requirement to reach the destination, how to get there, is not anymore a problem.

One may choose to travel by land, sea and air. By land we have the wheeled transports. Automobiles and trains are the on the top list. By sea, there no other choice but to sail in the wide ocean. That is, if you don't want to go underwater. In a Submarine Perhaps? And by Air on a friendly winged bus.

Through the last 2 decades the demands for transport is increasing so as the accident that tragically goes with it. But, amidst the accidents, the Airplane still considered to be the safest way to travel. Plane Crash? How often can it be?

Latest News Headlines

May 2010, an Indian Air Bus Overshot the runway and crashed into a gorge killing, nearly 158 people and left with 8 survivors. By far, this was India's worst aircraft disaster for the pas 14 years. The latest, before this incident was in November 1996. Wherein, a Saudi Arabian Airlines 747 collided with Kazak Airlines Ilyushin 76. The worst mid-air collision which left all 349 passengers and crew killed.

May 25, 2010 - Toronto, after the Indian accident, a Cirrus SR - 20 went a blazed and crashed through a roof of Thinkway Toys. Both the Pilot and its passengers were killed. A small aircraft compared to that of India but the magnitude of the death toll is equally the same.

Does the sized of an aircraft is a factor in an Aircraft's safety?

What are the factors for a Plane Crash?

Lot of factors actually. Basically, we could go through, Man, Machine and the Environment:

1. Man - a Pilot error. The most, if not, common actually. The safety of both the Aircraft and its passengers solely depends on the Pilot's judgment. But, with the latest innovation in Aviation, Aircraft's are flying with the most sophisticated instrumentation and avionics. Thus, insuring or fool proofing the Aircrafts ability to fly safely. Therefore, Pilots now a day are flying by instruments.

2. Machine (Aircraft) - If the integrity of the instrumentations were duly checked and rechecked during calibration and maintenance, practically, such accident due to instrument failures can be avoided.

3. Environment - the weather plays an important factor in flight. The weather could be forecasted. But, as to when exactly? it's difficult to tell. Another factor is the airport terrain and conditions are other significant factors as well.

Compared to Land and Sea Travel, which has the most Accidents?

There are far more Automobile accidents that it is in the Airplanes. The probability for you to be involved in a plane crash is 1 to 11 million. Compared to a chance of dying in a car accident, 1 in 18585, that's a very big difference.

That's according to some. As to how the came up to that number, I really don't know. Funny it may seem, but, have you ever wondered why an airplane can have an ejector seat while and car only have an air bag. Is it desperate to ask, instead of keeping someone inside the car during an accident, why not make something that could separate him from it?

Safety in travel, is the industries top priority and concern. I just hope, through technology we could reduce fatalities or might as well eliminate.

Disclaimer: This article is not to discourage its reader(s) --- if there is, the travel by air. It's just the opinion and insight of the author of the current events relating to safety in travel.
