Shrek themed Glasses Pose Danger to Kids

Shrek Forever After debuted last May 21. The animated comedy features the voice of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Antonio Bandera as Puss in Boots and the voice of Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. The Ogre was cute and so are the Fairy Tale Characters on that movie. But, wait, let’s not get carried away.

It was good movie and I guess a nice treat for your kids. Yet, this latest news may not sound GP to you. McDonald's, the burger giant, had to recall 12 million of Shrek themed glasses. It was recalled due to cadmium content, discovered, on the painted design.

Oh no, these $2 - 16 ounce drinking glasses are really not cute. It's pretty cheap, but, not thanks. I don't want to end digesting those Cadmium content, especially to my kids.

Cadmium and the adverse effect to a human body.

Cadmium is a metal mineral and the long term exposure to it has certain adverse effect. It is know to be as a carcinogen. And it is quite known soften your bones, slowly. Turning it into like a sponge, I guess. What is it doing on these Shrek Themed glasses anyway. Cadmium is like to be found on Red and yellow paints. It was found out, that on this glasses are pigments of cadmium present.

The danger, especially to kids, is this. Once they get contact with the glass, painted surface, a certain amount of those Cadmium content could transfer in to the hands and the rest will follow and then leads intake in to the human system. You know, kids have a tendency of not washing there hands. A small amount though, but, with repetitive contacts could lead this chemical accumulated in the body.

Long term effect could lead to sever kidney disorders, softening of the bones and worst cancer.

Why Cadmium is in that paint if has a known hazard?

Like Lead, it was introduced to paint for, toughness and permanence. It is toxic; application to other things, for painting, has been put into a protective level. The case with the Shrek Themed glasses, it was found on tests that, the content of Cadmium pigment is slightly above the protective level.

I am very curious though, Cadmium is content is regulated, applying it to glasses intended for kids, sold in a famous fast food chain and wasn't checked before they go into the field? It's a shame. I love McDonald's. I Love a Happy Meal for my kid. I love to buy items, with Shrek on it, for kids. I just don't want to get them hurt in the long run due to using it.
