$3.7 million dollar aid to Pacific Storm, Agatha, Victims

Weak, yet, very catastrophic. This was what the tropical cyclone Agatha left in the Central Americas. The first of the storm in the Pacific Hurricane season that brought about widespread flooding and havoc which left almost 150, 000 force to flee from their homes and 148 believed killed.Countries impacted by the storm was El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala believed to the most affected.

To answer the call of distress, the European Union sent $3.7 million aid to the storm affected areas. The storm, Agatha, have been a tropical depression in May 29 and released its wrath on May 30, 2010. EU answered the call right away, and expect a larger sum to be sent soon, depending on the magnitude of the calamity.

The money appears in times of Calamity.

In other countries, they must have something like a Calamity fund. That is a fund, allocated for in times of great needs especially on Calamities such as storms and other weather or environmental devastation. But, as we come to think of it, do we have to wait for somewhere to be destroyed and someone left in grief to release and aid?

The view of the world does not zooms in during times of devastation. Not everyday we have storms or floods. Yet, we only react to things that were globally broadcasted. How about those in remote part in the Globe whose suffering from hostile wars, droughts, famine and other ethnic violence. Are we addressing their weak distress call? Or, are we just not tuning in to them?
